Turn That Clock Back!

The Jet fan actually  reminds me a lot of Russell, my main character from “Deep to Right.”  I think its the hair.  Everybody was on new quarterback Kellen Clemens this week, so I thought I would join the fray.  The Jets usually play during the afternoon, leaving me enough time to draw the cartoon depicting the latest Jets loss.

"Geoff the Ref"
Kellen me softly
By Geoff Walter / SNY.tv

New quarterback, same result. You thought that Kellen Clemens might have led the Jets to a victory yesterday, throwing for 226-yards with another 48 on seven carries and a touchdown of his own. You want there to be a better passing game but his completion percentage was less than that of his predecessor Chad Pennington, though he got sacked just as many times as Pennington did last week, though lost seven-yards less than Chad did against Buffalo last week. At least that's something.
Sunday's 23-20 overtime loss to the Redskins was like waiting for the inevitable to happen. At this point even with a substantial lead early in the game, the dreadful feeling that it won't last floods your mind and permeates your soul. To be a Jets fan now, you know that no lead is safe, and that each quarter brings you 15 minutes closer to another loss. "It's just so frustrating at this point," Clemens said after the game.

Yeah, it's been frustrating for about three decades, ever since Joe Namath left. No one has quite measured up to the standards of Broadway Joe, or even come close for that matter. Richard Todd started almost the same way Clemens did yesterday, going seven-for-12 for 94-yards and a TD. Not that I'm comparing Pennington to Namath or anything. Vinny Testaverde can only claim greatness for one year, but even he never approached what Namath was, despite the constant blaring of the Elton John ripoff "Vinnie and the Jets" during the 1998-'99 season. Kellen and the Jets? Nah, doesn't have the same ring. Super Bowl or otherwise.
