"Geoff the Ref"
Which ref is right?
By Geoff Walter / SNY.tv
How did it come to this? We referees have always been a marked lot from the fans, drawing the ire of those in the stands as well as those on the court and field for what they believe to be a questionable call, but the decision always stands. Rarely, if ever, does a decision on a sporting stage get overturned even if the wrong call was made.
Now alongside those questions of if that baseball just happened to glance off the top of the wall, if a foot just happened to meet another on the way to the basket, did that stick meet a skate, or if the linebacker was brought down by their facemask or not you can add if the guy wearing the vertical black and white stripes is on the up and up or as crooked as Quasimodo's spine. Maybe we have become so accustomed to the spectacle, the entertainment aspect of the sport that has overshadowed the game with its campaign of behavioral shock and awe displayed by those professionals paid to lace up every day that it now takes something truly disturbing to unsettle our psyches.
Here in this space you the reader are afforded the luxury of posting your own two cents to go along with my own, and having it weighed equally as well. On the rare occasion some have even been graced with the honor of a response from this zebra -- something that would never happen at any sporting event. Remember that this has been, and always will be, a privilege and not a right.
