The Giants just had to win one game to get into the playoffs - never mind that it was their final home game, the final game they would play in the stadium that beard their name. They couldn’t even do that. Meanwhile the Jets had the same mission - win one game and they make the playoffs, never mind that it was against Cincinnati, who were already in the playoff hunt, and will face Gang Green in the opening round. So it was literally just a case of rolling over 37-0 by the Bengels, letting the Jets in to the playoffs and allowing them to close out the place where they are just tenants, not the landlords, the way it should be - with a win.
I really had to immortalize the scene of the Jets just one-upping the Giants, probably all time, by winning the absolute final game in Giants Stadium. The hardest part were the legs, but I like QB Mark Sanchez’s pose here, as well as the perfect expression on his face.
I originally had just the back of Eli’s head with the nose sticking out, but wanted to change it as the look didn’t sit well with me. The perspective actually makes his nose look a little bigger because (let’s face it) I can’t turn his head ALL the way around! ^_^
I was worried about whether the eye lines would meet up, about if Sanchez and Rex Ryan should be “pushed” back a little in the three dimensional space so it looks like they’re further “behind” the bench, but I’m glad that I didn’t really have to do any major re-shifting of the characters.
Again, my desire for grandiose images overstepped the limitations of paper. I had thought to have a three-quarters view with Sanchez and Ryan coming like over a rounded curved field with the stadium arching in the background up to the clouds, jets screaming overhead and such and Eli looking at Sanchez and Ryan. Essentially the camera would be in front of where Ryan is walking in the above cartoon. Then I thought that if you’re having the cartoon be about the closing of the stadium, you don’t really want sunshine and clouds, etc., you want a little more darker scene.
