2009 World Series - Top of the Heap!

They say that attending a World Series game is one of the events any sports fan has to do.  I take it one step further - attending a clinching game of the World Series is something you have to do, especially when it’s the Yankees.

And what a time I had at the ballpark, a glorious night indeed.  As I strode up past the old House That Ruth Built I thought to myself, “27 outs to a 27th World Series title.”  I was literally counting them down from when Pettitte threw the first pitch of Game 6.  I stayed in my seat all through the victory celebration, and even on into the night until ushers kicked me out.  I then spent about the next hour roaming the Stadium shops looking at the new merchandise and remarking on the piles of empty boxes they  had once come in piled just outside.  As I walked across back to the Old House, I bought a couple pennants from a guy hawking them - five bucks a piece, but what the heck?  And they had the rods to wave them about included - and spent the rest of the night in complete bliss.

As for the cartoon, of course it takes its subject matter from Sinatra’s “New York, New York” (ironically the Chairman of the Board was a Brooklyn Dodger fan) with the Bombers standing triumphantly over the fallen remains of the other teams.  And yes I know the Marlins, Braves, White Sox and Indians weren’t in the playoffs, but I didn’t really want to put a boulder for the rockies and how else do you represent the Twins?

I’ve also updated my drawing of the trophy to reflect the actual one.
