With Roger Clemens being interviewed Sunday night on 60 Minutes, I knew I had the idea for Monday’s cartoon way ahead of schedule. He never took a lie detector test on the show, but I thought - what might happen if he did? Everyone in the world has pronounced him guilty already. In part two of The Simpsons episode “The Springfield Files” Homer is hooked up to a lie detector by Agent Scully, which then promptly explodes after Homer answers the first question. I thought the same thing would happen when Clemens gave his denial, throwing shrapnel everywhere that the lawyer or government-type guy had to avoid.
I love the way I drew Clemens here, as well as the sparks at the ends of the frayed wires and the g-man’s hair - looks really slicked back and semi-sleazy. The title, “60-minute Man” also comes from an old blues song which is quite risque.
