Jets Shot Down
Well, it was fun while it lasted. As much as I and the rest of New York wanted the Jets to go all the way, it just wasn’t meant to be. And at least it sets up the Superbowl match between the teams I (and probably everyone) predicted from the early in the season: the Colts and the Saints. I mean, come on when both were putting up undefeated seasons, you just had to know that it was going to come down to those two teams, am I right?
My first time drawing Eli’s big brother Peyton Manning, whose head is a little longer, chin a little more defined and his hair is on the receding side, but he still has that infamous Manning schnoz. The scene of Cuba Gooding Jr. shooting down Japanese planes in Pearl Harbor came to mind when I first envisioned this, but I didn’t want to just draw a big anti-aircraft gun - it didn’t feel right for the cartoon. Then I came up with the idea of one of those spiral machines used for passing practice and the whole thing just came together perfectly.
