Blackhawks Up!

I really wanted the Stanley Cup finals to be another repeat of Detroit-Pittsburgh, as I still have a number of Penguin-Octopus cartoon ideas left and thought that they would be powerhouses for several years.  Alas, it was not meant to happen.  What we did get was the Chicago Blackhawks over the Philadelphia Flyers (Philly can’t catch a break, huh? ^_^).

Trying to come up with some sort of Indian idea that I hadn’t already used, I thought about two things: a large totem pole and dancing around a large bonfire.  Needless to say the latter won out.  I actually had envisioned a grander piece, with the whole tribe around it, beating drums, etc. but settled on the four warriors for a final.  I also wanted tomahawks, but thought, “hey, this is hockey, use hockey sticks,” and put them in.  It’s funnier, I think.

The orange closely mimics the color I had in my mind, changed only a little because it clashed with the Blackhawk colors too much.  There was also supposed to be darkness behind the teepees, representing a forest or just the night, but it looked too out of place so I changed it to a more brownish color, figuring the tribe could be in some sort of canyon and shadows dancing on the walls.
