To quote Tom Hanks’ character Jimmy Dugan in A League of Their Own, “There’s no crying in baseball!” There is however, apparently, crying in football as Rex Ryan so demonstrated after a 24-22 loss to the Jaguars and a subsequent team meeting in which he reportedly wept openly. He also was brought to tears after his first win as a coach when Gang Green in Houston.
*UPDATE* November 19, 2009: Of course, after seeing what the papers make of it, Ryan goes on to say: "The Jets have Toyota and I've got Kleenex, for obvious reasons.”
First time I’ve gotten to draw Ryan here, and I just have to say I love the outfit he always seems to sport on the sidelines - the dark sweater-vest and white turtleneck. It also helps that he’s a very, VERY large guy - great for the cartoon. ^_^
Oh, and as for the disembodied hand, chalk it up to a member of the press handing him a box of tissues. And yes, I am aware that the hand only has four fingers, but if you hold a square box at that perspective, it looks like there’s only four - try it you’ll see what I mean. I did try the pinky, and it looked really awkward.
