Even though the Yankees gave him the old heave-ho, Joe Torre still has a soft spot in his heart for the Bombers, and especially the core four that he helped come of age. Torre was in New York for his Safe at Home foundation and gave an interview saying that he was rooting for the Yankees in the Series (no surprise given that the Phillies beat the Dodgers two years in a row), so here’s Mr. Torre, as Jeter still refers to him, in a flashback to the night of Game six.
This is the first time I’ve drawn Torre without his cap, and trying to get that little whisp of hair he has in the front is quite a challenge; I hope I’ve at least captured a little bit of it. The framed No. 6 jersey was an extra added touch since I didn’t know if the Dodgers logo on the lamp would be enough, but also I wanted to remind everyone of the Yankee connection.
Viewers may remember a similar scene I drew way back just after New Year’s 2008 with the Ref and the Knicks.
