Rocky Meets the Lady of the Harbor

Two of the East coast’s icons clash in this cartoon as their respective cities meet in the World Series this year.

Drawing Sylvester Stallone as Rocky was the hardest part, trying to get his face and the ‘80’s hair just right (I kind of went for the Rocky IV look vs. Ivan Drago).  I’m really pleased with Lady Liberty, getting the face right, the expression and the lady-like features (have any of you actually seen a close-up of the Statue of Liberty’s face?), not to mention making a girl look good in green.

The original drawing also had too much white space at the top, a result of me drawing too low on the page.  Hey, when you get an image you like, you don’t erase it so you can move it up on the piece of paper - you adapt.  So I cropped it in post-production, and added about half an inch to the bottom of the cartoon.

As far as World Series prognostications go, who does Jimmy Rollins think he is predicting the Phillies in five games, six if the Phils are feeling generous?  I mean, seriously?  I know the Phils are defending champs and all but, please.  I do have to admit though that I’ve never been this nervous about a World Series involving the Yankees though.
