We Have Got to Stop Meeting Like This

I wanted to pay homage to my first cartoon, with the Yankees and the Mets meeting each other once October was over.  I can actually see this becoming a yearly thing, drawing how the two teams finish with respect to each other on the park bench with the “”Now Leaving October” sign.  I also love that Torre can either be looking at Willie, or at the Cardinal representing Tony La Russa, who was rumored to be next in line to succeed Torre for the Yankee managing job.

"Geoff the Ref"
Biting the Big Apple (Again)

Out in the first round again for the third time in as many years. This is getting ridiculous, and I'm going to be sick. Chances are a lot of Yankee fans feel the same way. As Yogi would say, it's deja vu all over again. Mets fans now have their blood, their pound of flesh they so vehemently desired and craved along with the rest of baseball and it's a sad thing for us all, especially in this city. For them, Joe Torre will become their sacrificial lamb, for all the good it will do them. You don't fire a man who has gotten your team into the playoffs for 12 years straight. They may claim to deride the Yankees, to curse and swear and step on their names, to cross to the other side of the street whenever that dark blue cap emblazoned with the white

interlocking NY passes their way, and it is certainly their right, but it's a loss for all of us as a whole. Say what you will but in your heart of hearts you know it to be true: the Yankees are and were the best chance for a championship -- any championship -- this city had this year, and the postseason -- any season -- just isn't the same without them.
The Giants' outlook is grim and the Jets are a joke. The Knicks? Their entire drama has already played itself out off the court, in court. The Nets mean nothing. The Rangers are resigned to mediocrity, the Isles incapacitated and the Devils are doomed. Seriously, what does it say about the sport of hockey where it never drops below 70 degrees in the reigning champion's home state? The heart and soul of this city is baseball, and it desperately craves a trophy to wrap its arms around again. If we do not live and die with every swing of the bat, every ball and every strike, then I dare you to prove me wrong. The Yankees were the only New York team this city could root for this postseason, and like it or not I'll have to root for Cleveland in the ALCS because it's better than the blasphemy any self-respecting citizen of this State would commit by cheering for the Red Sox. Then of course, I hope they get scalped by either the Rockies or the Diamondbacks in the World Series. Ah, well... only 174 more days until Opening Day.
