500 Saves (and one RBI)
I had to think for a long time before coming up with this cartoon to commemorate Mariano Rivera’s 500th save (against the Mets no less!) not to mention a bases loaded walk issued by K-Rod for his first RBI. I kept thinking about safes (save - get it?) and posing Mo similar to Tom Glavine with the 300 behind him, but it didn’t feel right. Then I remembered all the bats that Mo had broken over the years and commentators saying whenever he broke another one that they would add it to the pile - well, here’s the pile!
I had really hoped that Mo would have gotten No. 500 against the Mariners tomorrow so I could have been there to see it in person - I’m going to the game tomorrow anyway - but I can’t really complain seeing how he did earn it against the Mets, so there was sort of a home crowd at Citi Field.
For those wondering, I really don’t know who Charlie is, it was just a name I came up with that sounded good in context. Now that I think about it, maybe it’s Charlie Manuel? ^_^
