2009 All Star Game - Hit the Wrong One!

Another Midsummer Classic and another victory for the American League.  Personally I can’t believe a year has gone by so quick from last year at the old Yankee Stadium.

I have to admit that for the longest time leading up to the start of the game that the National League had the best chance they’ve ever had to win the All Star Game in quite a while, but the outcome still came in favor of the AL, 4-3, - with a save thanks to Mariano Rivera! - and extending the junior league’s  dominance to 13 straight years.

Being that the game was in St. Louis, the cardinal was always going to be involved in this cartoon, as I wanted a homage to the 2006 World Series cartoon.  It was only a question of which league was going to get it in the end (insert bad joke trombone sound here).

If the AL had actually been defeated, the tree limb would have been reversed and had an exceedingly pleased with himself look on his beak.

Nice little effect I’ll point out as well - I originally drew the tree branches with the intent of adding the leaves in the coloring phase.  However, I didn’t want the line art to go completely to waste, so I dialed down the opacity just a hair.
