I happened to be walking through the mall and near the sporting goods store when I noticed they had ESPN on the monitors with the news that both Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz were on the infamous 2003 MLB steroid list of players testing positive for banned performance enhancers.
Manny already was suspended 50 games this year, but with Ortiz joining him - in 2003 no less- it just paints the most heated years of the Yankee-Red Sox rivalry in a different light. Opponents always feared that 1-2 punch of Manny and Papi in the Boston lineup (myself included), how they could beat you with just a wrong pitch, and how almost nobody could get the two of them out.
It really was superhuman seeming and I never really let it into my mind just how they were able to accomplish it all, but it really does taint 2004 (and ‘07). I mean, they had to use PEDs to break the curse? And because of that, does it now mean you can re-reverse it too? ^_^
